Always I have seen symbols painted, carved, scraped into the street and sidewalks of the City. I suppose they are for city workers, to communicate what kind of sewer lines lie beneath, or where the road-widening project ends. But I have always fantasized that they were a secret communication among some otherworldly denizens of the City, denoting mysterious points of interest, or the route of a hidden path.

Who are these secret denizens? Is this some latter-day descendent of the well-documented hobo sign? Is this the work of some LARP wankers playing at being a secret society?

Or is it something else, I have yet to imagine?
