The Name: Wolf Moon

The Image: A thin man tends a fire in a petroglyph-marked cave. At his side a wolf sleeps.

The Interpretation: Hibernation after a long year in preparation for the coming spring. Loneliness, rest, and safety. As a person: A loner; Someone who is retreated from society for a time. As a time: January; A time of preparation; A time of rest. Reversed: You'd better dig your way out once in a while or your refuge will become your tomb.

 

The Card: Second Moon

The Name: Breaking Ice Moon

The Image: The ice on the frozen river is breaking up, and the dark water beneath is beginning once again to flow.

The Interpretation: The long winter's stagnation is almost over, but beware! The cracking ice is dangerous to any who assume that everything is the same as it always was. As a person: Someone who is coming out of a long period of stagnation; someone whose walls are breaking up. As a time: February; first thaw. Reversed: Your long stagnation must end soon or it will never end. Do what you can to initiate the breaking of the ice.

The Name: Moon of Winds

The Image: The Lady sweeps the skies with her besom.

The Interpretation: The winds that are blowing are the Lady's way of spring cleaning. Old, dead things are swept away so that the new things may have room to blossom. This may be traumatic, but change is the way of things. As a person: A housekeeper; Someone who can go through changes without being distressed. As a time: March; Any windy time; Any time of great changes. Reversed: Beware, the changes that are coming are going to be particularly difficult for you.

 

The Card: Fourth Moon

The Name: Seed Moon

The Image: The village women are in the fields planting by moonlight—as their ancestors have done since time immemorial.

The Interpretation: It is the time of beginnings, and though the seeds are planted in the dark, they'll reach the sunlight soon. Remember, there's a reason for the old traditions. As a person: Someone who starts things; Someone who remembers old planting lore. As a time: April; Springtime; Planting time. Reversed: Tear it out and start over—you don't want it to come to fruit the way you've set things up so far.

 

The Card: Fifth Moon

The Name: Hare Moon

The Image: In the pale sky of early morning, the full moon hangs, watching over a frolicking hare in a daffodil-strewn field below.

The Interpretation: The trickster Hare enjoys life without worrying about consequence, and quickly forgets his troubles. Sex is always prominent on his mind, and whatever seed he sows, grows fertile. From this, seemingly accidentally, all the good things of the Earth have sprouted.

As a person: Someone who is fertile; Someone highly-sexed. As a time: May; Springtime; The time of conception. Reversed: Take care, for you are not considering the consequences of your actions.

 

The Card: Sixth Moon

The Name: Lovers' Moon

The Image: A typical June wedding is performed in front of friends and family. Children frolic on the sward.

The Interpretation: Family is formed amid joyous celebration. This doesn't necessarily mean a literal marriage, but a joining of forces that feels like family. Love and joy, and all that. As a person: The person you're joining with. As a time: June; weddings. Reversed: No matter how much you love them, you have to leave your family for a while, at least symbolically. Get away from the bustle.

 

The Card: Seventh Moon

The Name: Thunder Moon

The Image: Storm clouds roil across the sky, giving only a brief glimpse of the moon. Purple lightning flares in the distance.

The Interpretation: If you prepare, and focus on your goals, now you can manifest success. As the lightning strikes the Earth, so your success can be engendered. As a person: Someone of thundery nature; Someone who is good at manifesting his own reality. As a time: A storm; An unexpected event, positive or negative. Reversed: Better be prepared, for lightning is about to strike, and if you're not ready for it, it will almost surely harm you.

 

The Card: Eighth Moon

The Name: Corn Moon

The Image: Co-workers in the harvest pause for a drink of water and to admire the progress they've made. It's a good harvest year.

The Interpretation: Many hands make light work. Work together on this harvest, and you'll be able to accomplish much more than you could have alone. Don't forget to take time to appreciate your company. As a person: Someone you are sharing labor with. As a time: August; harvest time; any great shared work. Reversed: You'd best stop being lazy and do it yourself. The other's can help once you've made some more progress: this part you have to do alone.

The Name: Harvest Moon

Reversed: It's time to get to work, so get off your ass.

 

The Card: Tenth Moon

The Name: Blood Moon

The Image: A dark-clad figure scries by the light of a blood-red moon in a circle of white stones. Also in the circle are a pale blade and a skull.

The Interpretation: It is time to let go of the everyday world and look within for some spiritual housecleaning. Messages from the other world, and particularly the Dead, may be influencing this process. As a person: One who tends to shut herself off from the world and spend most of her energies inside, in the darkness. As a time: October; Midnight; A time of reflecting on the Dark within. Reversed: Beware of shutting out the world around you and focusing too much on the darkness. Get out into the sunshine.

As a person: A thrifty person; Someone who saves compulsively. As a time: November; Any time of preparation. Reversed: Stop spending so much time worrying about the future and enjoy the now.

 

The Card: Twelfth Moon

The Name: Oak Moon

The Image: A winter oak, branches burdened with mistletoe, glimmers in the moonlight.

The Interpretation: Endure the time of hardship and there will be a rebirth, as the sun returns in the spring. As a person: Someone with a wintery disposition; Someone who lives in the dark but sees the light. As a time: December; a time of endurance. Reversed: The hardship you are enduring is self-imposed, and the spring will not thaw you unless you let it.

The Name: Blue Moon

The Image: Thin clouds scud across the face of the full blue moon. Vaguely, a dark face is visible within the moon's countenance.

The Interpretation: It is a time for memory, prophecy, and scrying. All boundaries are vague, and all you need do is make yourself ready and look. As a person: Someone with a gift for fortune-telling. As a time: A rare time; the dark; the night of the blue moon. Reversed: Look at the world around you. Your answers will be found in the mundane and material world.
