2004 Christmas Haul

W
ell, first and foremost, the MOOD has broken. Mostly it broke last night, from kind e-mails and messages, and staying up chatting with Chris.

I awoke today and Pete let me know about the job openings at kfmb. I reworked my resumé (with advice from Rowan) and applied to the Writer/Editor position and the Promotion Assistant position.

Then I got a package in the mail from my Dad. I didn't wait until Christmas:

A pair of lovely (and obviously needed) bookends, in the shape of dragons, with Celtic knotwork.

The catalog at Design Toscano says, ©“Gray Friar Dragon Bookends” by artist Gary Chang
Comes with a lifetime guarantee to protect your prized first editions. This pair of dragon bookends will try its best to keep books safe from unwelcomed borrowers! Cast in designer resin to capture the exquisite detail of the sculpt, spiraling horns and menacing faces sit atop a myriad of traditional Celtic crosses. Felt bottomed to protect your fine furniture, these are perfect for gift giving.

A somewhat equine dragon statue that breaths smoke -- due to the compartment underneath where cone incense can be burned:

©“Sir Bessemer the Smoking Beast” by French artist Frederic Levesque.
As close to a fire--breathing beast as we want to get! Light our incense and Sir Bessemer actually breathes smoke! Finely sculpted in designer resin in the Gothic tradition, Levesque’s imaginative beast is striking with his shaggy mane, outspread wings and muscular haunches. Viewable from all sides, Sir Bessemer is ingeniously sculpted so that smoke actually billows from his toothy grin! Another creative Toscano exclusive.

A little later I walked down the mall to put in an application at AMC Theatre (Chris, this is your cue to put in a good word). On the way I took most of the pictures here (the rest were taken last night as I wandered around dusk, practising night photography).

I took the following picture to demonstrate about how nearsighted I am (especially at night):

Yep, the Scixer needs glasses.

It took me about 20-40 minutes to walk down, 30-35 mintues to walk back up. A very acceptable commute.

And I degaussed the monitor and it is much better.

So that was my day.

Christmas can be today, why not?

So I already reported on the package I got from my dad -- the bookends and dragon incense burner.

I also got a present from a friend online at a Secret Santa gift exchange on the Sex, Love and Intimacy Forum:

Of course, I ate all the chocolate penis pops before I thought to take pictures.

I have finished opening the presents from my Mom and here's what I got:

I started with the six-pack of Moxie. I've drunk five cans so far.

Then I opened the parcel I knew to be tread socks. I always get tread socks from my Mom at Christmas. Which is cool, 'cause I love them. I opened them last night because I needed socks. The other parcels are laid out here with the socks on the quilt my Grandmother made that I brought home from the funeral last year.

My mother is notorious for using whatever boxes happen to be lying about to package presents. I have been known to get presents in a Tampax box.

I don't know if the picture does it justice, but this tie is gorgeous. In my visit, she must have noted that I had started wearing ties again. The blue in this will go well with my eyes.

I always get a calendar of some sort. The tag on this one reads,
TO – SCOTT
LOVE – MOM
LARRY, MIKE
Ayaahh

Living in Maine will be rough if I cannot laugh at the rednecks, I guess.

That's my grandfather, Ayuh (the more typical spelling of the sound we Mainers make to signify assent).

Green Tea? No, it's not a reused box, I checked. I must have mentioned I liked it when we visited the Co-op.

It took me a while to realize that this said "a touch of ME" -- ie, Maine -- not, "a touch of me."

I sure HOPE this is a re-used box.

A balsam pillow. These are said to bring good dreams. And definitely keep me homesick.

Not a bad stash. Kind of light this year, but she DID pay for my plane ticket AND slip me $50.

And I guess the other gifts I got that trip count too, huh?

Larry's pocket watch and Patti's crystal cluster.

Wow, doing this was lonlier than I expected. Thanks for letting me share it with you, though. Lord knows I have little else to give this year.
