When I was a lad, I noticed I had poor balance. So, when I found myself standing, I'd often fidget by lifting one foot or the other and balancing for as along as I could. Eventually it became habit, and now I can balance on one foot all day. I have developed intentional beneficial fidgets for keeping my silver ring polished, tightening my abs, working my kegels, and numerous other things I've more-or-less forgotten. I've also developed some mental ones, like "Q-TIP" -- I recite to myself, "Quit Taking It Persoanlly" throughout the day. It makes a radical change in my outlook. And a positive one, one I was aiming for. As I recall, I have done the same with "all the universe in information", "thou art God" and even "I am God". This is all a form of self-programming that doesn't require LSD (good to assist in self-programming, but use with care), meditation, magic, psychotherapy, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, prayer, or any of the other methods that still work quite well, but may take more directed intent.
